686 boards. Ten categories. 129,937 wallets holding TAO somewhere on the register. We put every artist's board side by side and asked a different question... not who collects an artist, but who collects a category. Lens Based. Illustration. Glitch. AI.
The answer surprised us: almost nobody.
The map
Lens Based is the centre of mass... 434 of 792 artists. Illustration is the second. Everything after that is a boutique: Glitch, AI, Generative, 3D and Painting together hold fewer artists than Illustration alone.
The price of a front seat
TAO is time. 69 a day per 1/1, 4.2 per edition copy, and no way to buy a day you didn't hold. So every category's top ten has an entry price, and the ladder is wildly uneven.
Five categories cost under 1.6 million TAO to sit in the top ten. For scale, one 1/1 accrues about 25,000 TAO a year... twenty 1/1s held three years clears every gold bar on that chart. Painting's front row costs 1.37M. 3D costs 1.54M. Illustration's 44.9M is not collecting at all, which we'll get to.
Nobody collects categories
Of each category's top ten, how many seats are held by wallets collecting exactly one artist?
In four categories: all ten. The Line's leaderboards are stacks of single-artist devotion. Deep, patient, real... and narrow.
The exceptions prove the vacancy. norcalguy.eth holds sixty Lens Based artists with nineteen top-10 placements... the only wallet on any category leaderboard that genuinely collects its category wide. glitchqueen.eth and scamart.eth sketch the same practice in Glitch. Everywhere else, the patron-of-the-category seat is empty.
Health check
Glitch is the model. Deep 1/1 collections in every row of its top ten, no supply distortion, and nearly every artist in the tag has a live board. If you want to see what a collected category looks like, look here.
Illustration is distorted. Its leaderboard is open-edition supply wearing a collector costume... half the top ten is flagged, and the top row holds ten million copies of a single token. Distinct works held tells the true story, and the boards already show it.
Generative is one drop. Eight of its top ten sit on a single March 2023 release held deep, the other two on one 2022 drop. Twenty of the 22 artists in the tag have no category-level collector at all... the widest gap on The Line between artists available and patronage present.
6529 is the most collected cut... only two single-artist rows in its top ten... and the most concentrated: one collector, across two wallets, holds seats on 19 of its 68 boards.

Every category above links to its artists. Every artist's board is public. The open seats are sitting in plain sight... and TAO started counting the day you did.
Method: computed from the 686 public TAO boards, 5–6 September 2026. Marketplace, escrow and burn addresses excluded; artists' own wallets excluded from their own boards; alias boards collapsed. Category is the single tag each artist carries in the directory. Rows where one edition token supplies more than 80% of a wallet's category total are treated as supply, not collecting. 24 Tezos artists and 82 Ethereum artists have no board yet and are absent from these figures.
