The Intimate Self

17 March 2026·3 min read

It takes a brave soul to bare their inner world on the timeline, yet that is the courage Maria Fynsk Norup (Line 88) displays. Maria was one of the earliest artists to The Line, nabbing the lucky number 88, and to share her collections. On the right side of her gallery are works minted on Ethereum and on the left, Tezos blockchain.

The collection I keep coming back to is a dozen 1/1s in the Nature's Remembrance collection. Each a slight variation of pose, inside a factory hall local to her on the island of Aeroe, in Southern Denmark. The collection was exhibited there in 2021.

For someone who displays such a strong sense of self, seeing her continue her exploration over the following years, despite a significant setback, should be an inspiration to us all.

The "1 in 8" series is a deeply personal body of work, which simultaneously is created with a wish to increase awareness and discussion about this illness that affects so many of us. The enhanced visibility that follows being shortlisted is a dream come true and an important step towards this goal.

Who Said Fragile?

Showing that vulnerability can be a deep source of power, Maria's (Line 88) work "Who Said Fragile?" embraces the un-deniability of her earliest work with the freedom that often opens up in the wake of a substantial burden being lifted.

The phrase Le Temps Revient is often used in the sense of "after every storm there's a rainbow", and feels so fitting for this self-portrait work, that is created as a direct comment to my wrestle with breast cancer 2024-2025 and links into my treatment series "1 in 8".

We can see our own metamorphosis through Maria's (Line 88) courage, what it takes to confront reality and how, as an artist we get the honour of sense-making for those who see our work -- often in a search of their own.
